2010's Top 5 and Bottom 5 Movies
Copyright 2011 Bob Richards
The last day of the year means it's time for my tally of the terrible and terrific…My listing of the lame and luminescent, my inventory of the insipid and the immense, my top five and bottom five for 2010…

First the worst…

Jonah Hex, I'm Still Here and The Tooth Fairy all nearly made it, but as bad as they were, they weren't as awful as this years five flawed flops…

The fifth worst film of 2010 is…
McGruber
(MacGruber - Rogue Pictures - Rated R)This laugh free bomb's idea of fun is desecrating a corpse.  But we do get to see Will Forte's hind end so often I began to think it was his face! ."  Yep.  1 Star Out of 5
Number four is…
Sex and the City 2
(Sex in the City 2 - Warner Brothers - Rated R)When the four main characters traveled to Abu Dhabi and sang "I Am Woman," it made for one of the most retch inducing moments in cinema history.

Number three is…
The Last Airbender
(The Last Airbender - Paramount - Rated PG)The poorly written, unintelligible script contains some of the clunkiest dialogue ever committed to film.  It would have been more entertaining if the actors just said clunk clunk clunk…

The second worst movie of the year is…
Furry Vengeance
(Furry Vengeance - Summit Entertainment - Rated PG)
You know that urban legend about the old lady that put her poodle in the microwave to dry it? Well, that's how I felt watching Furry Vengeance…The poodle, I mean.

And the worst movie for 2010 is…
(Jackass 3-D - Paramount - Rated R)Jackass 3-D.  I have never been closer to actually getting sick in a theater than I was while watching Jackass 3-D.  It's more vomit, more urine, more defecation, and more male members all in hideous, vomitous 3-D.

And now to my five fave films, the best of the best for 2010…

The films that just missed the best list were Get Low, 127 Hours, Despicable Me, Tangled, The Kids are All Right and The Fighter…and that would be fine if I had a top eleven…but I don't…so…

Number five is…
City Island
(City Island - Anchor Bay - Rated PG-13)
City Island is one of the best times I've had at the movies in years!

The fourth best movie of the year is…
Inception
(Inception
- Warner Brothers - Rated PG-13)If you are looking for a movie where you can shift your brain into neutral and watch the pretty explosions, Inception isn't it.  It is mindbending and very, very cool.

Number three is…
Toy Story 3
(Toy Story 3 - Disney - Rated G)Pixar accomplishes the nearly impossible with Toy Story 3.  It is every bit as good as the first 2, and maybe even better.  The three-peat is a 3-D masterpiece.

Number two is…
True Grit
 (True Grit - Paramount - Rated PG-13)
The Coen Brother's latest, True Grit, contains terrific writing, terrific direction and terrific dialogue.  It is owned by Jeff Bridges, but newcomer Hailee Steinfeld steals the film from him.  Gritty, engaging and always fun, the Coen brothers have delivered another masterpiece

And my pick for the best movie of 2010 is…
Black Swan
(Black Swan - Fox Searchlight - Rated R)
Black Swan is hypnotic, twisted, dark, frightening, moving, nightmarish and absolutely brilliant.  Natalie Portman's mesmerizing performance is her best ever and the best by an actress this year.  She is absolutely thrilling in a role she was born to play.  It is something very special.

And there you have it…the lows and the highs for movie magic in 2010…here's to a great 2011 at the movies…Happy New Year!
