2005 Top 5 Bottom 5
It's time for me to reflect on the best and worst films of 2005, and I must say that this was a less than spectacular year for movies. The highs weren't so high, and the lows were below the basement.
So now I give you my top five and bottom five for the year 2005. First, the worst…
Number 5 is Miss Congeniality 2, one of the most tedious, badly written movies ever made. Please bring back the old Sandra Bullock. I liked her much better than the one in this movie.
Number 4 is The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl! Robert Rodriguez is a powerful Hollywood director who has too much power. Movie producers, here's a tip: The next time anyone says that their 7 year old wrote the script…Run!
The third worst is The Devil's Rejects. It is the second and hopefully last movie ever made by Rob Zombie. This one made me feel like I needed a shower after watching it.
Aeon Flux is the second worst of 2005 and was one of the worst blunders ever made by an academy award winner - ever. And it features two of them! Clearly the only reason Charlize Theron made this film was for the paycheck
And the worst movie of 2005 is…Alone In The Dark. It features some of the most hideous acting I've ever seen in a movie that wasn't produced on my son's camcorder. That Tara Reid was cast in the role of a genius was one of the great laughable moments of 2005.
And now the best, in my opinion, of 2005.
First a few Honorable Mentions.
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was the best of the series, and one of the best family films of the year.
Wallace & Grommit and the Curst of the Were Rabbit was wildly imaginative and very funny.
Sin City wasn't for everyone, but I thought it was absolutely terrific!
And now, the top 5 Best Movies of 2005.
Number 5 is Star Wars Revenge of the Sith. This final episode was completely entertaining and was the best film of the second Star Wars Trilogy.
The fourth best film of 2005 is The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. It was the very best family film of 2005. The film makers did just about everything right. They were faithful to the book, and delivered a wonderful movie.
Number 3, Shop Girl made me remember why I love the movies. Steve Martin was the best he's ever been, and so was the luminescent Claire Danes.
Number 2, Walk The Line - any film that can get teens interested in Johnny Cash has my vote. Both my kids have been playing the soundtrack constantly. My hat is off to Joaquin Phoenix and Reece Witherspoon who should both see Oscar nominations.
And my favorite film of 2005 is Cinderella Man. A fabulous story, truly great performances from Russell Crowe, Renee Zellweger, and Paul Giamatti, it is nothing short of breathtaking. I REALLY LOVED THIS FILM.
