Bob's Top 10 Films of the Decade 2000-2009
Here are my top ten films of the last decade. Many of these weren't number one on my end of the year lists, they have simply gotten better with age and repeated viewings.
Just Missed Making the List…
Napoleon Dynamite - An Idaho film that changed movies…and a very funny film!
Cinderella Man - Awesome performances, but it's lost a bit of its luster over time.
Million Dollar Baby - Clint Eastwood's masterpiece. Great in every way.
Whale Rider - This gets better with every viewing. I love this story, and I love Keisha Castle-Hughes' performance.
10. Gladiator - Russell Crowe's best performance ever in a timeless story.
9. Sideways - What a funny, heartwarming movie. The pairing of Paul Giamatti and Thomas Haden Church was, and still is genius. Go have a glass of Pinot Noir!
8. Gangs of New York - This underrated gem is Martin Scorsese's best recent film.
7. Lord of the Rings Trilogy - Peter Jackson may never out do this masterful trilogy of films. Even after watching them over and over, they are still great.
6. Wall-E - who knew such emotion could come from a little hunk of animated metal?
5. Juno - Beneath Ellen Page's terrific, quirky performance and Diablo Cody's hipster dialogue, is an endearing little film that sticks with you.
4. Little Miss Sunshine - Funny, with a ton of heart, brilliant writing, and every performance is outstanding.
3. Up - Pixar keeps getting better and better with every film. This one has set the bar so high, I'm afraid their next will be a disappointment! I've watched the opening montage several times now, and it gets me every time.
2. The Dark Knight - Everything was right for this movie - writing, direction and one of the best performances of all time from Heath Ledger.
1. Avatar - James Cameron's breathtaking, groundbreaking film is one of the most stunning achievements in filmmaking ever.
